Childhood Olfactory, Part 1

Sweet cotton candy at the spring circus
Mixed with popcorn waves
Within the concrete halls
In the belly of the Arena

Cut grass on a summer's night
And the sprinklers spraying cool water
Or cool drops of rain wetting the soil
Worms pulling themselves up to breath in the night

Leaves burning on an Autumnal Saturday afternoon
Smoke sliding through the neighborhood
In between the boxes with windows
That are anticipating the start of winter

Sweet apple cider steaming of cinnamon
And cloves as we prepared for Christmas Eve gifts
The fireplace crackling and the candles flickering
Out a light trail of paraffin smoke.
