Grape Kool-Aid

I found myself transported
Into my father’s shoes
My weekend project started
Plenty of stuff to do
Sweat pouring
Arms burning
Lists of things
Needing to get done

The sun came out
I tried to pace myself
But so much to do
As the thirst built
Near the end of the day
I remembered what dad
Would say to me
As he was worn out too

“JT go make some Kool-Aid...make it grape”
I’d go make up a pitcher
Of the purple sugary juice
And bring it out to the crew
With enough solo cups for all
We’d all soak up the nectar
While sitting on the cool grass blades
Knowing the day was done

As I sat there
Thinking back
I longed for the narrow Tupperware pitcher
To be brought to me
To fill up my cup
Purple to the top
And put it in my belly
And enjoy the shade
