Sunsets in Garretson

I'd crawl to the east
Up the Third Street hill
To look back to the west over town
I'd be just catching my breath
And hearing the evening birds trill
As I watch the sun sinking lower and lower down

Amber skies would enlarge
Giving the town a strange glow
As the taste of the night gained hold
And the still air would cool
As the last light went down
And I stood there looking over the shadow of town

One by one the street lights flickered
To life down below me
And I wondered what the next day would bring
But for now the circles of lights on Third Street
Aligned like spotlights on a runway
And pointed to me my way home.
