The Dentist

If my teeth were soldiers
In a war against sugar
Clearly the candy section
At the drug store won

The taffy, the chocolate
The nougat and caramel
Had no problem
Defeating my enamel

Every trip to the dentist
Was like a funeral for me
With a few more fillings
Placed like markers of graves

If it weren’t for the toy
I got to pick from the basket
At the end or the lovely buzz
From the gas, I’d have hated it.
